Dear fellow IMA Members,
Welcome to the new IMA 2011-2012 year. Many of you may have missed some of the big events of last year so let me recap.
The Seattle Chapter and the Bellevue Chapter both voted to combine forces in May 2010 under the name “IMA Chapter of Greater Seattle”. The past year has been one of consolidation and shared management. Some board members faced career difficulties which detracted from their ability to contribute. Nevertheless we had a full schedule of dinner meetings, a successful all day CPE event (BEST), and, most exciting of all, we forged the beginnings of a Student Chapter at the University of Washington. We hope to conclude that effort this year.
There is one important carry-over item from last year. You will receive another email about it in a few days. Because we are a newly formed chapter we need to establish new By-laws. We have a working document which is being ratified by the board as I write. When this is accomplished you, the membership, need to review and, hopefully, approve the new By-laws. I do not expect much controversy. We will want to get a quick vote so I am giving you this ‘heads-up’ now.
Your board is working diligently to put together a good program for this coming year. Details are not yet complete so now is your opportunity to contribute. We plan to maintain our traditional third Wednesday of the month schedule. In November we will substitute another full day (8 hour) CPE event which will include 2 hours of Ethics. If you have any topic suggestions, speaker recommendations, or if you want to be a speaker yourself we still have some blanks to fill in and are open to ideas. Don’t tell me you have none! Please let us know right away.
We plan to meet at the Red Lion Hotel in Bellevue this year. This is a return to a long-standing and popular relationship. They are looking forward to having us back. Our next board meeting will be at the Red Lion on Wednesday August 24 at 6:00pm. All members are invited to put in their two-cents worth.
In closing (for now), we (your board) are proud of our roles as Management Accountants. We are working hard to provide a rewarding professional support and enhancement experience for you. Please let us know what we are doing right, what we have done poorly, and what we have missed altogether. We look forward to hearing from you. You can drop any or all of us an email. Of course, check out our website at www.ima-greaterseattle.org.
Thank you for your support and participation,
Joe Ripley, President
